Celtic Ogham Lidded Box
A work of art can celebrate beauty, elegance, time, emotion and communicate. We believe we have expressed all of these in this hand-carved lidded box with etched intricate patterns and contrasting warm waving colors; an ode to an earlier time with this vessel that was inspired by Viking kings and queens.
This lidded box was handmade from a solid block of our Sapele wood stock. The finial was carved from Hard Maple wood, hand etched, and then hand painted using a metallic silver and gold. Inside, you’ll find a copper Celtic knot inlay surrounded by dyed black epoxy which represents a wax seal that might have been used at that time. The wood grain has stunning, flowing reddish and brownish ribbons. We finished this piece with a matte sheen that is not only gorgeous and durable, but feel great to the touch.
This bowl is not recommended for use with food aside from wrapped candy, but will serve as a stunning decorative showpiece in any room. The size of the bowl is approximately 5” inches tall to finial top, 7” inches in diameter, 1 1/8” inches in bowl depth, and 5 1/2” diameter bowl inside. The center Celtic knot inlay is 1 1/8” inches in diameter and the finial is approximately 3 3/8” tall. This gorgeous piece would make a fabulous gift of family heirloom.
